Dwarf rabbits and how to take care of them

The dwarf rabbit is among the most likable and adorable household pets. More and more people decide to buy this species, characterized by a temperament that is as likable as it is caring and wary in the first getting used to period.

The dwarf rabbits adapts perfectly to a life within a house, fitting well even in an apartment.

To be strong and happy, these leporides needs some special treatment:
Per essere sani e felici, questi leporidi hanno bisogno di alcune accortezze speciali:

  • Get a cage of adequate size (with a solid pavement and walls of rabbit-proof metal wire, for example)
  • Prepare the bottom of the cage with hay or soft wood shavings (besides being ideal as padding, hay is fundamental in the rabbit’s diet)
  • Put the cage somewhere appropriate (as an example, rabbits love to chew, so beware of electrical wires!!!)
  • Prepare a litter tray (rabbits use always the same place as “toilette”)
  • Create a hideout in the rabbit’s cage (wooden boxes will do just fine)
  • Food, snacks and water (vegetables are fundamental)

A dwarf rabbit requires constant attention, as it necessitates a lot of care.

Drop the idea of perhaps giving one as a gift to your kids as if it were a “toy”, because the rabbit is easily scared and a number of them have died of heart attacks because of a bad scare.

The dwarf rabbit, however, really loves company, it’s important always finding time to spend with him to get familiar. Too many hours of loneliness will make it nervous, sad and, as a consequence, aggressive.

That said, get the most out of the company of your little friend, it will give you lots of satisfaction!

Enjoy!

  1. Thank you for your enriching article, which I think it is important to remind all future adopters of dwarf rabbits! I also have a blog to follow the adventures of my two dwarf rabbits and share my passion with a French-speaking audience if you are interested:
